DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS: OPEN GROUP
SHOW & CELEBRATION EVENT

Celebration Event

Día de Los Muertos or The Day of the Dead is a
Mexican and Mexican American celebration that
happens annually on November 1st and 2nd.
Día de Los Muertos is a holiday that honors and
celebrates the dead with lively vibrant festivities.
The Arts and Recreation Center hosts an annual
Day of the Dead group exhibit, along with a special
celebration event for all ages. If you would like to
submit artwork to display for the exhibit, book a
class tour, or be a vendor with the event, please
contact John Carrillo at (626) 214-1601, Ext. 565,
jcarrillo@baldwinparkca.gov.
SCHOOL TOURS
The Arts & Recreation Center offers FREE
interactive guided tours for K-12 students; these
tours enhance student’s learning and provide
rich connections between the arts and other
disciplines. Students will encounter original
works of art and a hands-on art making activity.
They will take time to look carefully, ask questions,
and develop their own interpretations of the
art work. Our guided tours are led by our very
knowledgeable staff and visits typically last one

SPECIALTY CLASSES
CAYOLXAUHQUI TELPOCHCALLI -
AZTEC DANCE GROUP
Come join the high-energy heart-pounding
sounds of Aztec Dance. Dating back to hundreds
of years before the Spanish conquest, learn about
ancient traditions and culture of Aztec/Mexico
dance. The telpochcalli (school) is open to all ages
to learn about the Aztec culture. Come to hear the
drum and feel the energy!

BALLET FOLKLORICO
Taught by Clarrissa Zamora, a lifelong student
of dance, this class is an enchanting blend of
Mexican folk culture and dance, beautifully woven
together with ballet characteristics. In this class,
your child will have the opportunity to delve into
the captivating world of baile folklórico, where
they will explore the rich heritage of traditional
Latin American dances. Students thrive in this
class as they discover the artistry of skirt and arm
placement, beginner footwork, and performance
presence. They will learn the intricate details
that make each dance unique, embracing the
pointed toes, exaggerated movements, and
highly choreographed arrangements that are the
hallmarks of baile folklórico.

QUILTING
Come join your fellow quilters where we will work
on projects together and socialize. A place to
focus on your quilting, learn tips and tricks from
one another. Create patterns, designs and learn
new techniques; this is a drop in class there is no
registration required. Each quilter must provide
their own supplies and sewing machine.

MASTERPIECE MONDAYS
Express your artistic talents while creating fun
and easy to do crafts. This is a drop-in program;
parent supervision is required for children under
8 years of age. Get ready for summer fun! In the
month of July, we will be creating and decorating
slimy crawly critters, recreating your favorite
sport into a sand art masterpiece, and designing
your own unique blossoming tree. In August we
will be having a movie night and a game night
with prizes! We will also be crafting stylish ocean
life along with inventing your own silly monster
puppets. September is exploding with creative
activities involving paint, popsicle sticks, and your
imagination. Stop by the ARC this summer and
express your artistic talents.

DIY HALLOWEEN TREAT BAG
Join the fun at the ARC as we unleash your
creativity and make the most Boo-tiful candy
bags ever. Space is limited and preregistration
is required. Participants under the age of 10 will
require adult assistance for class.

DANCE INSTRUCTOR WANTED
Do you have a dance background? Have
you ever considered sharing your talent
and passion with others? Are you friendly,
energetic, and great with kids? Are you
looking for a way to earn extra money? If so
submit your class description, including; class
outline, dates, times, and fee amounts. The
Arts & Recreation Center is always looking to
add new classes to offer to the community. We
have a dance studio waiting to be used! For
