COURSES OFFERED
PARENT AND CHILD AGES 6 MONTHS TO 3
Designed to help parent and child adjust to their new aquatic surroundings
together, while the child learns basic water readiness activities.
PRESCHOOL AGES 3 TO 6
This class provides orientation to the water with the aid of an instructor.
Students will learn basic skills including breath holding, floating, kicking, and
basic front crawl.

The Department of Recreation & Community Services hosts a variety of Aquatic programs and activities throughout the year at the Baldwin
Park Aquatic Center. A variety of fun-filled aquatic activities; including swim lessons, recreational swimming, water aerobics, and lap swimming
will be offered throughout the year.
Registration
Registration for all programs is accepted on a “first-come, first-serve” basis
and will remain open until classes are filled. You may only register immediate
family members (son, daughter, brother, sister, grandchildren, mom and dad).
Registration must be under the guardian/parents household information.

*All registration will be taken at the Esther Snyder Community Center or
online at www.baldwinpark.com.

*Must have a current California Driver’s license or ID and utility bill to
match.
•
*All registration will be taken on date and time specified.
NOTE: If you are registering a child in any class above level 1, you must provide
proof of eligibility. Certificates from other agencies will not be honored.
AQUATIC CENTER REGULATIONS
Please obey all lifeguard instructions, failure to do so may result in
patron being asked to leave.
All children under 9 years of age must be accompanied in the water
by a parent/guardian.
Children, who are not toilet trained, must wear swim diapers.

The following swimming attire is not allowed: leotards, body suits,
workout clothes, jean shorts or cut offs, t-shirts, shorts below the
knee, sport shorts, & white clothing.
The following swimming gear is not allowed: flotation devices,
masks, fins, and snorkels.
Water aerobics float belt are allowed only during specialty classes.
All persons using the swimming pool must take a shower before
entering the pool.
Any person having any type of open wound, lesion or scab will not
be permitted in the pool.
Gum and Band-Aids must be deposited in the trash cans before
entering the water.
All swimmers wanting to enter the deep end of the pool must pass
the swim test conducted by a lifeguard.
No food or drinks are permitted around the pool area.
No running or diving.
No pushing, shoving, horseplay, or inappropriate behavior is
allowed in the pool area.
Spitting, spouting water, blowing the nose, or discharging bodily
waste in the pool is strictly prohibited.
Backward dives and flips are not allowed.
No hanging on lane lines, ropes, or rails.
The use of cellphones, cameras, video cameras or any recording
device is prohibited in lockers and deck areas.

LEVEL 1 (INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS) AGES 6 TO 17
The objective of Level 1 is for students to feel comfortable in the water and
enjoy the water safely. Children will also learn elementary aquatic skills
including floating, kicking, front crawl, and back crawl. Mastery of these skills
will advance the participant to Level 2.
LEVEL 2 (FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS) AGES 6 TO 17
Prerequisite: Completion of level 1 or pre-test. The objective of Level 2 is
to strengthen the participant’s fundamental skills and learn elementary
backstroke. Mastery of these skills will advance the participant to Level 3.
LEVEL 3 (STROKE DEVELOPMENT) AGES 6 TO 17
Prerequisite: Completion of level 2 or pre-test. The objective of Level 3 is
to reinforce and practice fundamental skills, swim in deep water, and learn
breaststroke. Mastery of these skills will advance the participant to Level 4.
LEVEL 4 (STROKE IMPROVEMENT) AGES 6 TO 17
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 3 or pre-test. The objective of Level 4 is to
develop confidence. Participants will swim laps using front crawl, back crawl,
elementary backstroke, and breaststroke. Participants are introduced to
butterfly. Mastery of these skills will advance the participant to Level 5.
LEVEL 5 (STROKE REFINEMENT) AGES 6 TO 17
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 4 or pre-test. The objective of Level 5
is coordination and refinement of front crawl, back crawl, elementary
backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke.

ADULT AGES 18+
The class helps improve participants’ proficiency in basic aquatic skills and
the five basic swimming strokes.
