PUBLIC SAFETY
Public Safety Mid-Year Review
At mid-year 2025, the Duarte Public Safety Department is proud to share some outstanding results, and to thank our community
for playing a huge role in keeping our city safe.
Crime Trends by the Numbers
· 23.2% decline in Part 1 crimes at mid-year compared to the same time
period last year
·
Larceny-Theft and Burglaries saw the biggest decreases, a direct result
of our focused enforcement and prevention strategies
Data-Driven Enforcement & Flock Success
Our Special Assignment Team launched targeted operations against vehicle-
related crimes, paired with stepped-up patrol visibility. We also leveraged our
citywide Flock camera network to great effect:
“When our cameras pick up suspicious activity, we get actionable leads almost
instantly,” says Director Larry Breceda. “Thanks to Flock, detectives are to
followup on video evidence and our collaboration with the DA’s Office has
turned those leads into solid prosecutions.”
Community Vigilance in Action
Our residents continue to be our strongest partners. So far in 2025, vigilant
neighbors have numerous calls for service reporting suspicious persons
or vehicles. Each tip helps our deputies act quickly and every call makes a
difference.
“Your phone calls are more than just data points,” Breceda adds. “They’re the
reason we’ve been able to arrest repeat offenders and put them before the
courts.”
Successful Prosecutions
Our City Prosecutor has achieved remarkable success in every municipal-code
violation case referred by both the Sheriff’s Deputies and our Code Enforcement
team. They’re able to secure court-ordered rehabilitation programs, impose
stay-away orders from specific locations, and even obtain jail sentences for
those who break the law-making it clear that violations in Duarte carry real
consequences.
Looking Ahead
We’re not slowing down. Here’s how you can help sustain this momentum:
• Report suspicious activity immediately:
Note descriptions (make/model/color, clothing, etc.) and call Temple Station at
(626) 285-7171 or dial 9-1-1 if it’s an emergency.
• Secure your property:
. Lock vehicles, homes, and garages, set alarms, secure windows, and remove
valuables from sight.
