HAZARD MITIGATION
On April 23, 2025, the Walnut City Council approved a Professional
Services Agreement with Emergency Planning Consultants, to
update the City’s Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
("MJHMP") for the 2025–2030 planning period. The Hazard
Mitigation Plan is updated every five (5) years to maintain eligibility
for State and Federal disaster funding and must be submitted to
the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services ("Cal OES")
and the Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA") for
approval.
The updated plan will reassess major hazards such as earthquakes,
landslides, and wildfires, revise hazard and critical facility maps,
and update the City’s capability assessment. The Project is a
collaborative effort between the City of Walnut, Mt. San Antonio
College, and Walnut Valley Unified School District under a
Cooperative Funding Agreement outlining shared responsibilities
and cost allocation.
